One user tested the matchmaking after confirming that it would be a lesser priority in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. It seems it's not as open as fans hoped.
Treyarch created a stir with the Black Ops 7 community when they introduced open matchmaking through a special playlist. The community was ecstatic about this. Black Ops 7 will implement open matchmaking by default after testing skill-based matching again to get feedback.
Some players feel that the game is not as open and as free as they thought it would be, despite promises of "minimal skills consideration."
YouTuber XclusiveReloaded tested this by comparing games played on his main account versus a new account. When playing on his high-tier account, the ping was lower than when playing on a new account. (One out of ten games was in the 20ms range as opposed to eight of ten on the new one).
This means that skill differences are sometimes considered more important than ping. The result is a different gaming experience depending on the player's skill level. While XclusiveReloaded acknowledges that the Call of Duty experience is still better than previous entries, he agrees that it's a step back from the beta.
Fans are naturally not happy with this perceived rugpull. The ModernWarzone tweet said, "Just watched Ace’s entire SBMM and... not looking great." The fans also expressed their hope that Treyarch would respond to this by saying, "His results definitely indicate that skill is not being considered minimally in his matchmaking."
DougDagnabbit, the owner of ModernWarzone, adds: "These are truly such sad results." He continues, "At least, it's been proven that in some cases, skill is considered more important than ping... Just have to laugh at this point." |
