The latest niggle came on Monday, when EA Sports released their top 10 wide receivers for Madden NFL 22. While several superstars were on the list Jefferson was not among them, with an overall rating that checks within 90. Unknown isn't something new to Jefferson. He came in second place to Justin Herbert in the Rookie of the year Award balloting. Jefferson was also a part of an LSU offense alongside Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase. The performance of Jefferson could lift him into the top 10 of the list.
Davante's Adams is the only receiver to have a rating of 99 overall. Jefferson was second in yards per route run last season. Simple math indicates that Jefferson had a higher YPRR than the other nine receivers in the list. only Stefon Diggs and DeAndre Hopkins scored more yards of receiving.
Why couldn't Jefferson get to the top? It could be been something other that stats. Each player in the top 10 sports at least one quarterback who is an media sensation. Although Kirk Cousins is an adequate player in the real world, he doesn't have the star-making power that Aaron Rodgers or Kyler Murray has.
Cousins isn't likely to win a popularity match against Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Dak Prescott, Dak Tom Brady. Even the names that aren't considered elite quarterbacks (Julio Jones), or have a stronger experience (Allen Robinson) are considered potential Hall of Famers.
If this is the case this doesn't mean that it explains the reason Jefferson wasn't included on the list following Odell Beckham Jr. was a star in his first season. Beckham's 2014 rookie season was among the most successful in NFL history. Beckham rushed for 1,305 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. Similar to Jefferson, Beckham put up his numbers in a limited amount of action as he smashed his way through the field after being out for the first month due to a an injury to his groin.
